Braxton Montgomery
Braxton Montgomery’s journey through the ranks of Phoenix Rising FC has been nothing short of remarkable. From a 12-year-old academy prospect to a first-team starter, Montgomery’s rise is a testament to patience, hard work, and a deep-rooted passion for the game.
Montgomery first committed to Phoenix Rising’s youth second team at just 12 years old in the spring of 2019, playing under the guidance of Vic Davidson. Later that year, he joined the club’s ECNL squad for the fall season, and when Phoenix Rising transitioned into MLS NEXT competition, Montgomery committed without hesitation.
National recognition soon followed. In 2021, he was invited to the U.S. Youth National Team ID Camp in Los Angeles, where he played right back. In 2022, he received another invite — this time to the Regional YNT ID Camp in Casa Grande, Arizona — and showcased his versatility by playing both as a No. 6 and a left back. That same year, Montgomery earned selections to the prestigious “Best in Match” teams at the MLS NEXT Cup in Dallas and MLS NEXT Fest.
In 2024, Montgomery made his first appearance with Phoenix Rising’s professional team, playing 25 minutes in a preseason match against the Portland Timbers.
This year, Montgomery featured heavily in Rising’s preseason campaign, logging 45 minutes each against MLS sides San Diego FC and LAFC, and playing against Charlotte FC in the Coachella Valley Invitational.
When the 2025 USL Championship regular season kicked off, Montgomery’s breakthrough accelerated. He made his professional debut with 15 minutes off the bench against FC Tulsa, followed by a four-minute cameo against Rhode Island. Then came a major milestone: his first professional start, playing the full 90 minutes against Monterey Bay. He followed that up by starting and playing the entire match versus No. 1 ranked San Antonio FC..
