Behind every thriving youth soccer club stands an unsung hero whose diligent efforts behind the scenes keep everything running seamlessly. At Phoenix Rising FC Youth Soccer, this indispensable individual is Polly Robinson, our longstanding club registrar and the backbone of our organization. Polly meticulously oversees player registrations, ensures compliance with league standards, and provides critical administrative support, allowing coaches, players, and families to fully immerse themselves in the joy of soccer.
1. You’ve been a part of Phoenix Rising for many years—how did your journey with the club begin, and what has kept you involved for so long?
I was doing the mom walkaround at Chaparral Park one nite when I had taken my daughter to practice. Her coach was Chris Brown. My husband was the team manager. This was when Phoenix Rising was known as the Blackhawks. She was then a 97. She is now a practicing attorney. Chris approached me that nite and said the position of registrar had recently opened up at the club and the BOD was wondering if I might be interested in running for the position. I was told it would be easy. Little did I know. But of course I said yes. I was already keen at that time on making the club one of the pre-eminent clubs in the valley. Nationally would be next.
2. As the club’s Registrar, you play a crucial behind-the-scenes role. Can you walk us through what your job entails and how it impacts players, families, and staff?
It should be noted that I have a real job. My position with the club is as a volunteer that has become over the years an additional fulltime job. The club now that BYGA is used has helped diminish the club registration component. However, the player and staff registrations for associations, league registrations remain and that is what I handle daily. That means passes, fixing tournament, league problems and you name it. Without any of that a player, team or staff could not participate.
3. You were recently named Registrar of the Year—congratulations! What did that recognition mean to you personally and professionally?
It was special and cherished. It was an acknowledgement that all the efforts made a difference and the job was well done.
4. Having seen the club evolve over the years, what are some of the biggest changes or milestones that stand out to you, and how have you seen the club’s culture and community grow?
The growth, the number of platforms and new platforms, affiliation with Phoenix Rising FC, the pro team, the recognition across the national soccer landscape of a premier youth soccer program, and the college program. The college program was at its inception designed to help kids get into college by recognizing the deduction and commitment to play competitive soccer. From there it progressed to help players play at the collegiate level.
The club culture is a byproduct of the synergy that exists among the amazing staff, players and parents.
5. What do you think sets Phoenix Rising apart from other clubs—not just on the field, but in how it operates behind the scenes?
The clubs professionalism and integrity.
7. You’ve seen thousands of players come through the club—what’s it like knowing you’ve helped each one begin their journey in a Rising jersey?
It is extremely humbling and makes me feel proud to be part of such an incredible organization.
8. If you had to sum up what Phoenix Rising means to you in just a few words or a short phrase, what would it be?
Help and Hope. I hope that I have helped players, their families and the staff have a good experience and enjoy the sport.
